Look What I Helped Make (sort of)

About three years ago, my mother-in-law gave me a sewing machine for Christmas. Maybe she thought I needed help being domestic or something. I can sew, but not very well. I can sew in a straight line (usually). This week, I dusted off my sewing machine and for three fun-filled afternoons Lisa came over and taught me how to sew. Lisa usually makes her kids' Halloween costumes. She has quite a great talent. This year is the first year that she will not be sewing a costume for her kids. So, she was kind enough to offer to help me make Emma's Sleeping Beauty costume. I did sew a little bit, I would say that I made 5% of the costume. I think if I had to sew the whole thing, it maybe would have been done by Christmas. The costume is so cute, but I think the best part of the whole experience was getting to know Lisa better. We had a great time. Thanks you Lisa for all your help. I owe you big time.

Daddy's Girl

Ryan is now working in Cheyenne during the week and coming home on the weekends. So far, this is working out okay, but I really can't see it lasting too much longer. I am sad to leave all my friends in Utah behind, but I do look forward to living with my husband again. I miss him and the weekends go by way too fast. When he does come home, Emma will not let him out of her sight for very long. I snapped these pictures as she sat on his lap on Saturday and watched the Utah game with him.

Frightmares 2009

10 Months

Emma is now 10 months old........she is the most happy, busy and beautiful little girl. (I'm not biased at all) She is really keeping us on our toes, I had forgotten how much fun it is to chase a baby around the house. We found out last week that her adoption will be finalized on November 10th (at 11:15am :). We are thrilled beyond words. We will take her to the temple on November 21st. Braxton put it best when he said, "I can't wait for her to finally be my sister forever."

I Heart Fall

We went to a pumpkin patch a few weeks ago just outside of Fort Collins. I just love being outside in the crisp fall air. They had a corn maze at the pumpkin patch, we got lost a few times. But eventually all made it out safe and sound.

Happy 60th Birthday, Dad!!

On October 5, 1949, the New Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers played Game 1 of the 1949 World Series at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees won 1-0. A world away, on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Canada. My father was born. I figure that he is such a big baseball fan because of the events that surround his birthday. My sister, Melissa, held a birthday party at her house for him yesterday. How I wish I could have been there.

Happy Birthday Dad, thanks for your love and concern...and yes, my smoke detectors do have working batteries and I am taking my vitamins and drinking lots of milk and getting plenty of sleep.

9 Months

Emma hit the 9 month mark yesterday. We celebrated by going to the doctor and getting two shots. :( Anyway, nine months ago, I had no idea that life in the Brophy household was going to change forever. I know I always say that she is so amazing and such a miracle, but I really can't help but be in awe of her everyday.

She is so close to being mobile, then the child-proofing will begin again.

Emma's BFF

Emma cannot get enough of her brother. She isn't crawling yet, but when she does, he will probably never know peace again. Here she is in his room watching him play with legos. I was amazed that she didn't put any in her mouth or try to destroy his creations, she just sat next to him and watched. Very cute.

Labor Day Weekend

We had a great weekend. Ryan's brother, Kevin, and his two boys, Jonathan and Thomas, came up from California for a visit. Jon and Thom are both teenagers and older than Braxton, but they are so much fun to be around, so the age difference is never an issue. What great cousins they are. Kevin's grandpa on his mother's side of the family was celebrating his 95th birthday. We were all invited to their family's cabin in Ogden Canyon. It was so beautiful there, right on the South Fork River. We had a BBQ with the family and the boys all went down the river on tubes a couple of times. Emma and Braxton were exhausted after a day at the cabin, they slept on the way home, but were both wide awake when we pulled in the driveway. They didn't seem to want to miss any of the action at our house, especially with their uncle Kevin, who is probably the most fun adult that Braxton knows. We also had late night board games and Rock Band sessions. Let's just say I will need a vacation from this long weekend, but it sure was a fun time. We wish that Kevin and his family lived closer.
